2018 in Review

Group Ride at the Prescott Mountain Bike Festival

2018 was a busy year for the Prescott Mountain Bike Alliance (PMBA). Together with your membership fees, donations, volunteering, and corporate sponsorships, we accomplished the following projects:

Spence Basin

PMBA Trail Work Day

PMBA has been working with the Forest Service, City of Prescott, Epic Rides’ “Hail the Trail,” and local residents for several years through an open, public planning process to create new and improved trails in Spence Basin. Most of those trails were completed in 2018 and have already been recognized as some of the best singletrack in the nation, including being featured in the 2019 Whiskey Off-Road Race!

Special thanks to Rob Hehlen, the Over the Hill Gang, and everyone else who has donated or volunteered for this and other area trail projects. With ten different Trail Work Days already scheduled for 2019, there are plenty of opportunities for you to remain involved in improving our local trails system.

Hosted Group Rides

PMBA continued to host a variety of weekly group rides, including:

Youth Program

PMBA Youth Program Group Ride

2018 kicked off a special PMBA Youth Program that included regularly scheduled group rides, skills instruction clinics, bike repair workshops, and trail stewardship/maintenance field trips. Everything was led by trained and experienced coaches and instructors, all FREE – including a fleet of brand new loaner bikes for kids without their own equipment.

Special thanks to Yavapai Regional Medical Center and other individual donors for funding the creation of this program for our local youth, which kicks off soon for 2019!

Prescott Mountain Bike Festival

Prescott Mountain Bike Festival

Each year, PMBA gives back to our community through the Prescott Mountain Bike Festival, including great beer and food vendors, demo bikes, shuttle routes, and bike gear giveaways. In 2018, we saw the most demo bike vendors ever at the festival with continued growth planned for 2019. Thanks to all of our sponsors, local bike shops, and volunteers for a truly epic annual event.

Pint Nite

Pinte Nite 2018

Each year, PMBA hosts Pint Nite, a fun opportunity to enjoy great food and beer with your local cyclist friends while entering to win some great raffle prizes! We had just over 200 people attend the event in 2018 and look forward to another fun evening this year.

What’s Next?

The above is only a small selection of what PMBA members have accomplished together in 2018. We have even bigger plans for the future, including more new trails, new trailheads and parking areas, and the realization of “Phase 2” US Forest Service plans that include gravity/downhill/flow trails!

Come join the fun by becoming a PMBA member, volunteering for specific projects (including trail work days), making a tax-deductible donation, and/or corporate sponsorship.
